Engine Will Not Start

• Stale gasoline: Drain old fuel and refill with fresh gasoline before starting the unit.
• Incorrect choke setting: Use full choke for cold starts, then gradually move to run after the engine warms.
• Spark plug issue: Remove, inspect, clean, gap, or replace the spark plug if the engine cranks but will not fire.
• Fuel blockage: Check the fuel shutoff, fuel line, primer bulb, carburetor bowl, and filter screen for blockage.

Auger or Impeller Not Turning

• Broken auger belt: Remove the belt cover and inspect the auger belt for wear, cracking, glazing, or breakage.
• Broken shear pins: Replace damaged shear pins or shear bolts with correct Craftsman-compatible parts only.
• Loose auger cable: Adjust the auger engagement cable if the handle moves but the auger does not engage.

Poor Snow Throwing Performance

• Clogged chute: Shut off the engine, remove the key, wait for all moving parts to stop, then clear the chute with the clean-out tool.
• Wet or heavy snow: Reduce ground speed and take narrower passes to prevent clogging.
• Worn scraper blade: Replace the scraper blade, shave plate, or skid shoes if snow is left behind.
• Loose impeller belt: Check belt tension and replace worn belts if discharge distance is weak.

Drive System Problems

• No forward or reverse movement: Inspect the traction cable, drive belt, friction wheel, axle pins, and wheel engagement system.
• Slipping under load: Replace worn friction wheel rubber or adjust drive control linkage.
• Hard steering: Check tire pressure, wheel lock pins, steering triggers, and cable adjustment on equipped models.

Chute, Electric Start, and Battery Issues

• Chute will not rotate: Inspect the chute crank, gear assembly, cables, frozen linkage, and packed snow around the chute base.
• Electric start not working: Confirm outlet power, inspect the extension cord, and check starter button connections.
• Battery model has low power: Fully charge the battery, clean terminals, and avoid overloading in deep wet snow.

Safety note: Always stop the engine, remove the key, disconnect the spark plug wire, or remove the battery before service. Never clear the discharge chute or auger housing by hand.
